When you visit or interact with our sites, services, applications, tools or messaging, we or our authorized service providers may use cookies, web beacons, local storage, and other similar technologies so we can provide you with a better experience.

We hope the information below provides you with clear and comprehensive information about the technologies we use and the purposes for which we use them, but it you have any additional questions, or require any additional information, please review our Privacy Policy, visit our Privacy Center, or contact us at [email protected].

Your consent

Some of the cookies and tracking technologies that we use on our website are strictly necessary and are there to technically enable the website and its components and to enable security measures. Strictly necessary cookies are activated without user consent because these are necessary for the website to work properly and in a secure way. Where required by law, we will obtain your consent before we place any cookies on your device that are not strictly necessary for the functioning of our website.

You have a number of options to control or limit how we and our partners use cookies and similar technologies with your visit to or use of our sites, services, applications, tools or messaging. See the options below in Your Choices, which are available to you to control our, or our service provider's, use of these technologies.

Overview of cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking methods

These technologies are small data files placed on your computer, tablet, mobile phone or other device (collectively, a "device") that record information when you visit or interact with websites, services, applications, messaging, and other tools like those offered by Respondus. Cookies are widely used by website owners in order to make their websites work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information. Though often these technologies are generically referred to as "Cookies," each functions slightly differently, and is better explained below:

Cookies: These are small text files (typically made up of letters and numbers) placed in the memory of your browser or device when you visit a website or view a message. Cookies allow a website to recognize a particular device or browser. There are several types of cookies:

  • Session cookies expire at the end of your browser session and allow a website server to link your actions during that particular browser session.
  • Persistent cookies are stored on your device in between browser sessions, allowing a website server to remember your preferences or actions across multiple sites.
  • First-party cookies are those set by a website that is being visited by the user at the time in order to preserve your settings.
  • Third-party cookies are placed in your browser by a website or domain, that is not the website or domain that you are currently visiting. If a user visits a website and another entity sets a cookie through that website this would be a third-party cookie. Third-party cookies enable third-party functionality to be provided through the website (e.g., analytics). The parties that set third party cookies can recognize your device both when it visits the website in question and also when it visits certain other websites.

Web beacons: These are small tags placed on a website resource or in an email to track how the user interacts with the content. This interaction generates a “hit,” counting your interaction with HTML content. For example, if you click on a piece of content on the website, a web beacon may record that interaction.

Web Tags or Tracking Pixels: This is a type of code (e.g., JavaScript code in a tag manager) or pixel (a small, 1x1 transparent image) loaded into the web page to enable website features, like the web design components, or to track user’s behavior across web sites and devices.

Similar technologies: Other tracking methods might store information in your browser or device utilizing local shared objects or local storage, such as flash cookies, HTML5 cookies, and other web application software methods. These technologies can operate across all of your browsers, and in some instances may not be fully managed by your browser, but may instead require management directly through your installed applications or device. A user may be asked to fill out a form providing personal information; such as their name, e-mail address, and interests. This information would be sent to their browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.), which then stores the information for later use. Digital fingerprinting techniques collect data from a set of parameters on a device.

Our Use of These Technologies

The ways we use cookies and similar tracking methods on this site are described below:

  • Strictly necessary” cookies are first party cookies that must be set to allow us to deliver the website to you and to provide Services that you request from us. They are usually only set in response to actions taken by you which amount to a request for Services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. For example: The Administrator Area of Respondus.com uses session cookies that allow the user to navigate from one page to the next without having to login again for each page.

  • “Performance” cookies are first or third party cookies that help us to collect information about how visitors use our websites and help us with site analysis and improvements. Analytics cookies help us understand how you are using the Services so that we can make them better, faster, and safer. Performance cookies will remain on your computer after you close your browser. We use all information collected by these cookies in aggregated form, rather than linking it to individual website users. If you opt out of or do not allow these cookies, we will not know when you have visited our websites and will not be able to monitor its performance.

We use “web beacons” to help deliver cookies and gather usage and site performance data.

  • “Functionality” cookies allow our websites to remember your choices or preferences, such as information on online forms or previous orders. These cookies enable you to move around our websites and use its features such as accessing secure areas (e.g., content for registered users). These cookies allow us to offer you a personalized experience while using the Website. They are not used to track your browsing activity on other websites. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies then some or all of these services may not function properly.

For example: Cookies allow our website to offer you an abbreviated version of an online form for your convenience if you have previously provided us with that information. Preference cookies help us remember your settings and preferences.

Use of Third Party Cookies

Third-party cookies enable third-party functionality to be provided through the website (e.g., analytics). These companies may employ technology that is used to measure the effectiveness of advertisements. This can be accomplished by their use of cookies or web beacons to collect information about your visits to this and other sites in order to provide relevant advertisements about goods and services of potential interest to you. The information collected through this process does not enable us or them to identify your name, contact details or other personally identifying details. Other uses of third-party cookies are shown in the Third Party Cookies table.
